NPI Report

The National Pollution Index (NPI) Report provides a summary of your site’s fuel usage and assists in determining whether your operations meet the Australian NPI reporting threshold.

Purpose

This report helps you track total fuel consumption by category and identify whether your organisation approaches the 400-tonne fuel-burn threshold that triggers mandatory emissions reporting under the NPI Guide v5.3 (May 2012).

Date Range

At the top of the report, you can select or view the reporting period.
Example: 1st July 2025 – 30th September 2025.
Only fuel transactions recorded within this period will be included.

Thresholds for NPI Reporting

An informational banner provides reference data for the NPI thresholds:

“NPI Guide v5.3 of May 2012 declares the minimum threshold of 400 tonnes of fuel burnt in the reporting year to trigger the emission reporting requirement.”

  • Petrol conversion coefficient: 0.739 kg/L (≈ 531 000 L to reach threshold)
  • Diesel conversion coefficient: 0.836 kg/L (≈ 478 000 L to reach threshold)

If multiple fuel types are used, convert all fuels to units of mass (kg or tonnes) before comparing against the threshold.

Report Structure

The NPI report groups data by fuel type and equipment category, showing both the total volume and the percentage contribution for each category.

BAN01 Section

  • Displays total fuel usage for the fuel type BAN01.
  • Sub-categories include:
    • Surface Miners
    • Compressors
    • LGV (<4.5 T)
  • Each category shows the volume in litres and percentage share of total BAN01 fuel usage.
  • Click collapse / expand to show or hide transaction details.

Diesel Section

  • Displays total diesel usage and its breakdown by category:
    • LGV (<4.5 T)
    • Compressors
    • Surface Miners
  • Volumes and percentages are shown for each category.
  • Expand or collapse each row to view further details.

Exporting the Report

To save or share the NPI report:

  1. Click Export Report in the top-right corner.
  2. Choose the desired export format.
  3. The exported report can be used for environmental reporting or audit documentation.

Tips

  • Verify that all fuel types and equipment are correctly categorised for accurate emissions tracking.
  • Regularly review totals to anticipate NPI reporting obligations before the end of each financial year.
